General:  I placed us in Moderately dry because, based on prior years, we should have had some rain by now.  We expect perhaps 1.3" in August.
Agriculture: The mustard and wheat look good and, of course, dry.
Energy:  We are still in peak energy production time.  We created 68.88 kWHR yesterday (full sun with smokey air), and only used 21.17 kWHR.  Admittedly, our roof is doubly insulated, so we don't really feel the heat of summer until about 6:00 pm in the house.  That having been said, this is certainly an endorsement for household solar.
Fire:  Fires all around us.  Grace to the South, Chubuck yesterday (now out), Boise, Northern Idaho, Spokane (of course).  It is fire and smoke season.  I've placed our evacuation checklist on the door, just in case.  In 28 years at this location we have never had a fire that held.  I've watched lightning ignite field fires a time or two, and we had a fire on Putnam peak 4 or 5 years ago (5 miles away), but so far we haven't had to evacuate.  Knock on wood.
Plants/wildlife:  As we move toward fall, I'm quite aware of the paucity of insects this year.  We do have a couple of yellow-jacket nests, but very few bombardier or other beetles, only 1 Mormon cricket (about right for our area), very few moths.  Maybe I'm just more sensitive to them, but they seem conspicuous in their absence. We have about as many hummingbirds as last year.  Certainly there are fewer wildflowers this year, probably due to the drought.
Water: We're low for the year, for sure.  We sit on the "el nino" cusp, where we may or may not get significant moisture this winter.  We're hoping for the "may" part.
