Another 2.89" of rain this week which is 47% of the August monthly average at 29% of the month completed.  High RH and mostly moderate winds have limited evaporation.  Even after 3 dry days, there is still standing water in a couple of places in the yard.  Soil is moist from the surface on down several inches.  Peanuts, soybeans and cotton are all doing well, with the exception of very late planted soybeans (after sage) that struggled to germinate in dry soil, then faced severe competition from weeds once the rain came.  Corn has done what it is going to do, and harvest should commence in a couple of weeks.  Garden plants are growing fine, but tomatoes are still cracking due to excess moisture.  Grass requires mowing every week  Roadside grass is tall enough to conceal a small deer.  Mosquitos and yellow flies are still abundant.  I guess the old wives tale that yellow flies disappear after the first big rain in August (2.02" on August 4th) isn't always true.
