The soil is dry with blowing dust occuring during thunderstorm wind. The above normal heat is causing high evaporation, dryness, heat stress, ozone alerts, and high energy use. The daily average temperature has been 4 or more degrees above normal since July 23.  Field flowers had some brief growth after the July 25 rain but are now mostly dead.  There are no sunflowers this year; two years ago they were everywhere.  The Sandia Mountains are dry and dusty with little plant and grass growth. The Rio Grande River in Albuquerque is empty. Our water supply is adequate but with mandatory watering restrictions in place.
