Fire danger is high.  Fuels are very dry, as is the soil, unless it is irrigated.  The creek is low, but flowing well.
The farmer a short distance away that was using one big sprinkler has now switched to a wheeled system with 12 sprinklers.  I see it running whenever I go by - but don't know if it is running 24/7.  Cattle have been crowding into shady spots during the warmer parts of the day, and the barn cats love it when they get a chance to sneak into the cool garage and stretch out on the concrete floor.  I was clearing some vegetation so that my garden will get more sunlight - now I am clearing vegetation to reduce fire danger by making clearings around buildings and breaks in the forest.  The wildfires in Oregon sent a significant amount of smoke into our area this past week, and hospitals report that ER visits due to breathing problems went way up.  Blackberries are ripening (or drying up in some spots) rapidly.  The local blueberry farm was closed for a couple days because of the heat.  Our neighbors have taken their boat somewhere at least 3 days this week.  The fawns are now -not following, but leading - with their mothers.  I want to make a traffic cautions sign that says "FOOLISH FAWN XING"   I saw a yellowjacket this week - they have been sparse this year, but I'd better do something soon, or likely they will become pests as usual.  Plums look ripe, but are still hard.  Pears and apples are few, but growing ok.  The power company sponsored an "energy shifting" period one afternoon this week.  They said their customers shifted enough energy to power 72,000+ homes for the 3 hour period from 5 to 8 PM.
