0.03 inches of rain all last week. Even with daily waterings, everything in the garden is turning brown. Only one tomato plant is still producing; the rest put out one set of fruit and then died back. Tomatillos are not filling their paper shells. Grapes are turning into raisins while still on the vine. Eggplant is about the only garden plant doing well. In the woods, Mayapples are nearly done, autumn olive is just beginning,spicebush fruit is mostly green. Pokeweed is going from flower to fruit as usual. Indian pipe stands and poison ivy are thriving in the dry weather. Local birds are loving all the seeds in the gardens, though. I counted six male goldfinches yesterday - a record for my yard.
