Two other days hit 100 degrees with the remaining days in the upper 90s. Heat Index was over 100 for five days. A “cold” front came through for the weekend but was still hot giving only the slightest break. Five days under a Heat Advisory and one day with an Air Quality Alert due to ozone pollution. It’s been 17 days since we’ve had measurable rainfall. ERCOT Power Grid still running under Normal conditions. Supplemental watering of container plants twice last week and supplemental watering of trees and native plant beds once last week. Filling up bird baths and water features every other day and the birds seem to appreciate that - one morning I wasn’t filling up their favorite bath soon enough and they let me know it. All other wildlife remains active mostly in the cooler morning hours. Yard grass that is not getting shade or water is completely dead, dry and crunchy (which is the majority). Using soaker hoses in areas as needed such as my rain and ET gauges and weather station poles. Soil cracks are growing. I’m submitting my annual soil crack photos with this report - same general area as last year for comparison. Crack measured is currently over 1” wide and 12” deep. (A nearby crack measured 19” deep.)
