What a difference a month makes! Over 10 inches of rain since the first of July but prior to that we were in the exceptional drought category. Now I would like to plant a bit of late garden but our clay soils are still too wet to work. The grass and weeds are busy making up for lost time and running rampant in the vegetable garden. In the summertime when all the plants are growing vigorously it is hard for rainfall to actually percolate down far enough to recharge the ground water, but as far as surface water and water in the upper parts of the soil go, we have more than enough for right now. I have a small brush pile that I need to burn, but it doesn't dry out enough to burn! A few weeks ago we had burn bans in effect everywhere due to the dry weather.
