Description:
Continued dry conditions with some measurable drizzle.  July was at 27% of normal with 0.06", and Water Year to date is at 88.4% with 44.26".  July ET was 2.48", slightly below the 14-year average at this location.  Average high this past week was 70.6 degrees, low 56.1 degrees.  July's average high was 2.5 degrees above last year, but still 2 degrees below the previous 4 years.  July average low was 1 to 1.5 degrees below the previous 6 years.  No change on the Drought Map.  Ruth Lake Reservoir at 88% on 7/31. The Trinity and Eel Rivers continue to drop, while the Mad has somewhat stabilized at 5.7 feet and 40-45 cfs as the reservoir continues to release water for the pumps near Arcata that collect the local drinking water.  Cal Trans and the county doing lots of vegetation cutting along roadways, especially Cal Trans heavily trimming trees along the local highways.  Spot fires continue to break out but contained quickly, and a prescribed burn was done at the Arcata-Eureka airport ahead of an air show this next weekend to prevent anything happening with the large crowds expected.  Blue Lake hosts an annual blues festival this coming weekend, continuing the summer music programs.  In several areas around this location poison oak is already reddening, which is earlier than normal.
