What started out as a very warm and dry week with grass turning brown, soil hard and cracking, and a swimming pool in much need of water due to evaporation and to keep water moving to the pump, ended with grass greening up, softer turf and no domestic water being added to the pool.  Over an inch of soaking rain fell on Friday with additional rain yesterday turning back what was starting to be Moderately Dry conditions.  With July starting out wet, the month ended on a dry note with a deficit of 0.80" (80%) of NOAA Norm. YTD and WYTD did however remain on the plus side of NOAA Norm.  August starts at +1.01" (503%).  Area rivers are at their summer lows but will see a little rise this week with what rain runoff there was and the rain that fell to the north.  Area crops remain to appear to be looking good.  I am sure the soaking rain will help boost the corn kernel growth.  Temps are to remain near normal with more rain forecast for mid-week.  The hummingbirds remain very active at the feeders.
