0.89” in the preceding week. This brings our total catch for July to 9.91” – 337% of PRISM average, wiping out deficits earlier in the water year. This wasn’t only the biggest July I’ve seen – it was also the second-wettest month since I started collecting data in 2017 (local record at this station was set September 2021, with a total catch of 13.58” thanks to some tropical storm activity). We’ve got a ways to go before offsetting the significant deficit for ‘24-’25 so continuing drought categorization certainly makes sense, but it’s a start. Worth noting that although all of the Cape did pretty well this month, the southwest corner of the Cape and Islands – from Bourne down through the Vineyard, then east through Mashpee – really got the lollipop. Despite this, July has actually been quite lovely – not too many sticky days and plenty of sunshine between the much-needed rain events. Things are lush and growing in seasonally-appropriate ways. Pond level is at normal control depth. Wildlife activity is normal; am seeing significantly reduced osprey activity now that this year’s chicks have fledged.
