Most of my garden has given up on getting meaningful rain. Even with watering (from the hose now that the rain catchment system has run dry), plants are fruiting, going to seed, and dying back at about 50 to 70 percent their usual mature size. Sweet corn and amaranth are less than five feet high. Tomatoes aren't bothering to bloom again even after fruit is picked. Basil, calendula, and most other herbs are dying back already. Only the curcubits seem utterly unbothere. Sparrows, wrens, goldfinches and cardinals are flocking to the gardens. Mayapples are green and the plants are dying back. I found one spicebush with red berries today; most are still green. Deer are eating things they normally avoid, like nightshades and pokeweed.
