Since last reported on 07/19/2026, recorded 0.59" of precipitation on 07/23/2026. I also submitted a Hail Report for this storm. To summarize July 2026, the drought conditions have worsened this month as only 0.77" of precipitation was recorded so far indicating this station is only at 28% of PRISM and NOAA normal of around 2.00". The precipitation mentioned above is barely keeping us out of Severely Dry conditions. 

Checking topsoil this morning indicates dry and dusty soil down to the 3.0" level where the soil is slightly moist. But not moist enough to pack in my hands. Topsoil is also easier to dig into compared to previous report. Native grasses appeared to have gone dormant. I have only mowed the grass twice this season.

Three Cottonwood trees we planted last year are struggling as their leaves have browned and many have fallen to the ground despite regular watering. The Crabapple trees are faring better. 

Birds are most active in the morning hours before the heat kicks in. Saw and heard two Falcons this morning during my observation. Observed two Hummingbirds chasing each other yesterday. 

After the precipitation recorded on 07/23/2026, thunderstorms have been going around our immediate area to the north and south denying us additional moisture. Fire restrictions continue for El Paso and surrounding counties with no open fires allowed. No wildfires reported in our immediate area. 

With the long-term drought continuing and substantial precipitation event recorded on 07/23, I will maintain a Condition Scale of Moderately Dry.
