This week conditions conclude mildly dry. Although only 0.09 inches of rain fell this week, overnight recoveries have tended to be humid with mild temperatures. Surface soils are dry, even dusty, but soils further down are retaining moisture. Some parts of the lawn are drying out whereas other areas of the lawn are lush and green and require regular mowing. The red maple trees are showing signs of heat stress. The corn has really shot up in height and is showing up at local produce stands. Outdoor recreation remains robust; weekend traffic from out-of-state tourists has been heavy. Overall, this week was not as oppressively hot as the prior week.
