Conditions in our immediate region are currently moderately dry. This is because we have received over 6 inches of rain in the past week. However the State of NC is still classified as in severe drought. Our stage 2 water use restrictions are still in place. NC is still well behind the NOAA 30-year average for the water year. Our "no burn" restrictions are still in place but the rain has provided a good wetting of the duff. Lawns and gardens have "greened up" and the soils are moist. Our silty/clayey soil desiccation cracks are disappearing. People are out walking between showers and the cars are getting a good rinse. Small streams and creeks are flowing again and the Haw River has a noticeable increase in flow.
