July 16 - 24, 2026: a trace more than 0.18" of rain total over the past week with 0.18" measured on July 17-18. The most notable weather impact has been from wildfire smoke-- remnants of the Claremont Fire in the Boise foothills and numerous fires burning in SE Oregon. Air quality has been in yellow, orange, and red for at least the past week, mostly in the PM2.5 very fine particulate range. Valley is covered by a grey to brown translucent to opaque haze/smog. Daytime temperatures have been near or above 100°F with morning low temps in upper 60's or low 70's. Sometimes high humidity, sometimes fairly low humidity as weather systems move through. Calm to breezy to windy. Yards and gardens are very dry. Plants are thriving if watered. Wildlife is busy searching for food and water. Hummingbird feeders are changed each morning, and the sugar solution is hot by late afternoon even in shaded areas. Claremont fire has been nearly contained at about 6,800 acres. Strong concerns now for flash flooding and debris flows if there is heavy rain on the burned areas until plants have the time to get reestablished to stabilize the hillside slopes. Reservoirs in the upper Boise River basin are at 99% (Lucky Peak), 35% (Arrowrock), and 76% (Anderson Ranch) capacity as water is drawn down for minimum river flow and irrigation needs. Toxic algae growth in some ponds and slower moving surface water areas are a concern for pets, stock, and people.
