0.89” of rain last week split up over three days - nothing severe. 1.20” of Evapotranspiration. Temperatures were seasonal but several days a bit below normal - morning lows in the 70s and afternoon highs in the 90s with one day only getting to 85 degrees F. Three days the Heat Index actually stayed below 100 degrees - a bit of a break. Provided supplemental watering to native garden beds as well as trees and container plants. I almost waited too long due to promises of a chance of rain that never transpired but the day I watered was the day we got just over 0.50” of rain. (I still gave everything a really good soaking and gave Mother Nature a piece of my mind.) The cracks in the ground continue to become bigger. I’ve had to also water the ground around where the poles for where my weather gauges are mounted - I’m losing this battle. Plants and wildlife are fine with the little extra attention. I have noticed an increase in hummingbird activity at the feeders as well as what appears to be a migration of dragonflies through my property - too soon for both. I have a theory that the Canadian wildfires may be displacing them. (I’d love for someone to reach out and confirm or deny.) FIFA activities came to an end in DFW - the heat definitely didn’t keep fans away. Yard work has been hard for me this Summer even though I get started early in the mornings so I’m only doing the bare minimum right now. Story for the week - nice break in heat but it’s the calm before the storm.
