With no rain this week and 2.17” so far in July, conditions remain mildly dry. If the smoky skies hadn’t kept the temperatures down it likely would be moderately dry again. The Pascoag Reservoir is down to 8’6” which is about normal for mid July but trending towards low. Again, we need rain. The grass is still growing from last week’s rain but will likely go dormant again soon if we get any heat at all. Boaters are out on the lake and we saw lots of fishermen out for what seems like the first time this year. Hostas and hydrangeas are in full bloom and our first gladiolus has blossomed. We planted our tomatoes late this year but with regular watering they are growing like crazy right now and the first tomato was picked this morning. Hummingbirds, robins, red winged blackbirds, swallows and sparrows have been active this week. Fire danger at George Washington state campground is still posted as Low.
