Intense thunderstorm early last week with 40mm of rain in 2 hours in my gauge; over 90mm at nearby airport, with much more in town to the south of me with damaging floods. Lake level rose 1.5” by next day, but has since dropped to pre-storm level. Excess rain has been mitigated over the past week by a three-day heat wave with strong hot winds. Forest Fire hazard rating is Extreme, with fire restrictions taking place starting at midnight. Many wildfires through the region, although forests and lawns still green. Biting insects are plentiful, with forest walks being intolerable. Beach very busy as folks look to stay cool; little recreational boat activity due to strong winds.
