Even though 0.51" of precip was recorded over the week, it once again came in dribs and drabs, never reaching deeper soil, while soaking rains fell all around and surprisingly near. As a result soil conditions were unable to improve and have remained mildly dry so far. With warm/hot and dry days for the foreseeable future, moderately dry conditions, at least, are inevitable. Currently, trees look pretty good and area lawns have yet to show any signs of stress. Wildlife has been pretty quiet with a few birds showing up at the feeder, a couple of chipmunks running around and our phoebe nesting routine finishing up. Looking at the drought monitor, this local area is in a mild drought that started almost two months ago despite the first two weeks of June being very wet. With any luck this very local current drought won't last too long or get much worse. And as luck would have it, the mosquitoes are doing quite well. While it is on the dry side, just enough rain has occurred to allow their numbers to remain constant. On the bright side, as this drought worsens it should cause the mosquito population to dry up. Time will tell.
