Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: CA-DN-1
Station Name: Crescent City 5.5 NNE
Report Date: 6/30/2026
Submitted: 6/30/2026 5:16 PM
Scale Bar: Near Normal
Description:
Time to start the great dry-out.
The month of May was nice w/ 1.78" rain but 26 days of zeroes. Still, finished the month at 113% normal. However, at the same time year-to-date was only 68% (-13") and water year-to-date 79% of normal (-14.15") and now entering dry season. Could be worse, i suppose. Garden is fully in, let the battles begin! Overall conditions: ground still damp just beneath forest floor surface litter. Marine conditions have been helping hold that moisture but the last few days of brisk NW winds should start a rapid drying. Yonkers Creek still visible flowing but last summer's creek monitoring spot has been changed to an unused well test pipe 8' feet deep. Established zero mark with a dipstick today, so will be monitoring actual ground water rise/fall there. All plants in full hydration and growth mode; thimble berries, blue berries coming on, Himalaya berries full flower; early plums ripe. lots of birds this year, especially crows liking the garden. Feeder = families of 6 red finches, chicadees, black-headed grosbeaks, finally actually SAW a western tanager (cherries bandit)
