We received an inch and a half of rain on Monday night and an additional three quarters of an inch on Thursday leaving the ground saturated for most of the week. Vegetation continues its vigorous growth. Mulberries and blueberries are starting to ripen. Rudbeckia and milkweed are flowering. Wild strawberries are ripening. The Tree Swallow nest in one of my birdhouses has failed with the parents apparently abandoning the hatchlings. Four other houses have active broods. Coyotes have been active and twice provided midnight serenades from the nearby field. The gardens have been too wet to work for most of the week and weeds are starting to spread. Bassett Brook early summer flow levels have been restored. Green frogs have started calling from our pond. Trails on Greylock are wet and muddy.
