Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: NC-WK-424
Station Name: Wake Forest 2.6 ENE
Report Date: 6/23/2026
Submitted: 6/23/2026 3:51 PM
Scale Bar: Mildly Dry
Description:
This area continues to be listed in the Extreme drought classification with NWS. Rainfall of approx 1.5” last week has improved the soil moisture but just for a short time. More rain will be needed for a major impact. Lake and pond levels were minimally impacted by this rain. Landscape plants have responded quickly to the rain but also quickly returned to requiring daily drip irrigation. Grass (hybrid bermuda) is greening up and growing fast but will need continued rain to maintain this growth. Watering restrictions in place limiting irrigation to one day per week during overnight hours. Agricultural planting is still behind and all planted crops appear to be stunted in growth.
Too soon to tell how the rain will impact them. Golf courses are trying to salvage the greens and letting the rest go. Their ponds did not show any significant level change front the rain.
I was in Goldsboro today and it is obvious that they have had much more rain as the ponds look more like late summer than drought and crops are larger and doing better. Overall an encouraging week but one that will quickly return to last week’s conditions without continued rainfall.
