With a total 1" of precipitation observed in the past week, conditions at this station appear to be near normal. Soil squeezed in the hand holds together and supplemental watering is not necessary to keep plants healthy. Though in little increments, the rain that came each day was enough to keep things green and promote growth in the garden. Wildlife has been less visible, traveling less to find water sources. Some Monarch Butterflies have come through, along with dragonflies and mosquitoes. The healthy bat population speaks to this surge of insects, out and busy at dusk. Too bad they don't eat potato beetles. Despite that setback, it has been a good gardening season so far. We hope for continued rain and for that ice to finally melt.
