With 1.23" of rain this week, conditions have improved slightly. Friday's rain of 0.97" is the largest single day total since March 17th. June is 60% complete, and the deficit is 1.64" for this time in June. Corn is beginning to tassel, with some fields averaging less than 5 feet tall. Soybeans are also very small for this time of year. Peanuts look OK. New weeds have popped up in the garden for the first time in a month with the week's rainfall. The lawn is still mottled green (over the septic lines), yellow and brown. Some areas are completely barren. Water did stand in low spots for a while after Friday's rain, due to the hardness of the dry soil, but was absorbed by Saturday morning. The azalea in full sun is no longer wilting in the afternoon. Retention ponds are still very low.
