Description:
Our alfalfa and pastures are lush and green. Two blocks away beans in a low area are covered with mud although water seems pretty well gone. We still have standing water in low area of sheep pen and marshy areas further up. Our little run off creek and pond are flowing still following this weeks heavy rains. Our sump pump stopped kicking on yesterday. Small 'lake' at entrance to our farm has been decreasing in size daily. We had a pair of mallards swimming in sheep pen and five ducks land in a low area in the back alfalfa field. They only stayed one day. 'Toadstools' are popping up all around. Flies and flying bugs are getting annoying. Yesterday while weeding, I was able to pull up grass and dandelions with roots attached. Soil is dark and loamy again. I have found four dead shrew (?Northern short-tailed?) since 5/30. I didn't see damage to them. Three were in the sheep pen and one in the front alfalfa field. Found two on the same day and the other two this month. What is happening to them I wonder?
