Station Name: St Amant 3.3 N
Report Date: 6/20/2026
Submitted: 6/20/2026 9:04 AM
Scale Bar: Mildly Wet
Description:
Saturday was hot and humid, so much so that you needed a knife to cut your way outside.
Tuesday, the first tropical system formed off the Texas coast and brought lots of rain over this area. Wednesday started out dry and later waves of light rain interspersed with heavy thunderstorms lasted through the night. This area missed the heaviest rains that were forecast to be coming to this area, which eventually blasted areas to our south and north west with thunderstorms and tornado-like winds. At home, three-inch diameter limbs were blown down but no other damage was visible. The rain that fell in patches drained off without any problems. A follow-up on the recently finished road work in front of my house, deeply eroded crevices have developed along the entire length of the project making it impossible to walk the area to provide litter control. After the road aprons were hydroseeded with Bermuda grass, this area did not receive adequate rainfall to support seed germination resulting in the erosion problem. Friday felt like the hottest, muggy day so far this year.
I have noticed that so far this summer, not many butterflies are here at all even though I have provided both host plants and flowers for them to feed upon. I haven’t seen a sulfur butterfly yet and I know we raised over fifty of them last year. And I haven’t seen a gulf Fritillary butterfly yet either and I have plenty of maypop vines growing. Tried fresh water fishing with my grandson nearby without getting a nibble. Too much rain water everywhere.
