Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: IL-BN-19
Station Name: Belvidere 5.0 NNW
Report Date: 6/20/2026
Submitted: 6/20/2026 7:23 AM
Scale Bar: Moderately Wet
Description:
Thanks to the 0.89" of precip over the week the soil was able to stay moderately wet and with our NWS predicting more rain this weekend the soil should continue to stay on the wet side. The 7.12" of precip since early June is definitely welcome especially after the almost 7 week dry spell we went through that started in mid April. As the old and wise Jerry Apps used to say, never curse the rain. So, the soil is pretty wet, the trees look exceptionally green and vigorous while lawns are greatly improved from our near severe dry soil condition. Area crops have really taken off after our substantial rains, and with more regular rains possible, area farmers should be just about set. Time will tell. Finally, color me chagrined. Thanks to the bird song app that I just started using, I discovered that the peewee/flycatchers nesting near my porch ceiling are actually eastern phoebes. No wonder that they found the same exact nesting location as last year since they "only" migrate as far away as Mexico and not South America like the peewees. And it "only" took me a year and an app to find out what they really are. Bird brains 1, large brain 0.
