Station Number: MI-SH-4
Station Name: Manistique 13.4 SW
Report Date: 6/15/2026
Submitted: 6/15/2026 6:35 PM
Scale Bar: Near Normal
Description:
Heavy rain on June 5 followed by normally wet weather since has returned condition from flash drought threatening crop germination seedling survival and forestry plantings back to near normal. The dry spell came at a critical time but ended in time to avert serious consequences.

All trees now fully leafed and poplar down is floating in the air. Hearing cuckoos in some areas so there will be some insect infestations in the forests. Logging truck traffic seems normal.

Tourists plentiful with boat trailers kayaks bicycles etc. on the vehicles. Biting bugs are bad in the usual spots and nuisance level in most areas. Deer flies now in the picture during warmest part of the day.

Garden growing slowly here near the lake where afternoons remain cool. Lilac started to flower on June 7. Radishes and lettuce only crops being harvested outside the greenhouse.

Continual parade of transports and cement mixers on the road as new houses go up everywhere and forests go down.

Usually have fawns and does around the house trying to avoid coyotes, but none this year. Suspect winter kill was significant but have nothing to support that beyond my own observation. Conifers putting on good new foliage growth.

A few small fires before the rain returned attributed to dragging trailer chains.
