Things are definitely drying out and getting crispy. Trees are stressed to the point they're losing leaves. Foliage canopies in general seem thinner than in past years, like I can see through the leaves of our curly willow to blue skies when the breezes blow, which I don't remember in past years. We've been having trouble getting prime on the well we've used in past years to water the garden, and after a lot of tweaks to the system, we've determined it must be that the water table is just too low. Which is a bummer, because it gets expensive to use city water. We went out of town for three days over the weekend - - which is why this report is a day late. Watered well the morning before we left (Friday) and by the time we returned Sunday night, a lot of the plants looked very stressed, so we gave everything a good soaking this morning. Had temps in the high 90s both Saturday and Sunday. In June. I know we've had such high temps in June in the last few years, so it's not really new, but a new trend compared to previous years in my memory. In the pix you can see the ranch is browning out, and it feels rather sudden, though I think my previous posts have been optimistic, and not looking back far enough when I was saying "nearly normal". I listened in on a "town hall" phone call with my local State Representative, and the topic was the upcoming wildfire season. They mentioned how this year's snow pack is at only 5% of "normal". I think we're in for a rough summer. Activities of people continue to be increased as people are enjoying the sun, though personally I am delaying outdoor activities into the cooler evening times, or getting out in the mornings when I can.
