Second week hazy, hot and humid with a vengeance. Several days each week we are under a heat advisory. We get a few days reprieve but temperatures remain higher than normal in the down periods, then high heat repeats. Predicted rains have not materialized despite thunder heard many days. Gardens require watering. Lawns drying out. Two large trees, a foot or more in diameter, splintered and fell, one middle of May and second this week. Vegetable farmers tilling, planting and harvesting. Vegetable farmers practice irrigation for production not because of dry conditions. Crop corn growing well. Great weather for farmers to make first cutting hay. Couple of turkeys seen.
NYC Reservoirs near normal at 95.4% of capacity compared to normal of 98.4%. Drier conditions reflected in lowered inventory of water. Consumption is high at 1.17 billion gallons for the week
