Fire danger has been low - but with a couple rather hot days forecast, it might not stay that way. I am irrigating diligently so my plants have sufficient water to do well with the heat. The creek is low, but the flow is still noisy. Pastures look good, and I see flocks and herd feeding as I drive around. I'm harvesting greens, broccoli, and some peas, as the hot days are likely to reduce the quality rapidly. Strawberries have been bearing fairly well - a bit early this year, and the trailing blackberry vines have a good selection of fruit. Baby birds are fledging - not all of them successfully, as we have numerous predators available to pick them off. Insects abound, mosquito wrigglers are in water dishes and buckets, and box elder bugs are especially numerous. Our solar cells are finally out-producing our electric use. We had a dashing downpour of rain early in the week - perhaps only lasted 10 minutes, but it stripped the staminate catkins from the Dougfirs, and in places the ground was covered with catkins. Grasses continue to pollinate - different species at slightly different times, of course, but my nose is running and I am sneezing.
