Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: IL-BN-19
Station Name: Belvidere 5.0 NNW
Report Date: 6/13/2026
Submitted: 6/13/2026 7:07 AM
Scale Bar: Moderately Wet
Description:
Seems safe to say that this area has exited its drought condition, at least for the time being. Over the week we received 3.99" of precip with most of that falling Thursday during a round of hurricane like thunderstorms. Our NWS predicted severe weather in the region and they did not disappoint. Area waterways are bank full and flowing fast while the soil is moderately wet since receiving 6.18" of precip since June 4. But with low humidity yesterday and strong sunshine along with moderate winds, the surface has begun drying surprisingly fast. Needless to say, trees are looking lush and healthy and area lawns are recovering nicely from the bone dry conditions earlier. Been seeing numerous birds around, definitely more than last year at this time, at least it appears that way. The four legged critters have been pretty quiet lately but the six legged ones are going strong. Potato beetles have been on the march and serious measures are being taken as they continue to multiply. Picking them by hand has become totally insufficient. I'm beginning to think that planting potatoes this year was a bad idea. Anyhow, I'm trying out a new, at least to me, organic spore/bacteria product and hope that it does the trick. Those buggers seem to enjoy the pyrethrum I was using, so hopefully this new product works. Maybe it'll give them a case of dysentery that they'll never forget.
