Conditions her remain severely dry. We are now under a "Stage 2" water alert from our water supply company. No outside irrigation, washing cars, hosing driveways etc. until further notice. People are urged to limit shower duration, washing only as needed and no driveway car washing. One drinking water reservoir in Durham is nearly dry and other water use restrictions are pending in our region. We have had very hot temperatures, yesterday's high was 104 F. at 30% humidity. More heat is coming this week. The Haw River is flowing but at the lowest level this observer has seen in nearly 9 years. Farmers have expressed worry about crop failures. The ground and forest duff is very dry. People are out walking but usually in the morning only. We are now at less than 1/2 the "30-year average" for rain in our area.
