Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: CO-LR-1272
Station Name: Estes Park 1.7 SW
Report Date: 5/31/2026
Submitted: 5/31/2026 9:47 PM
Scale Bar: Moderately Dry
Description:
Staying with Moderately Dry. May has been a good month for moisture. The deficit for YTD and WYTD is much larger than what one wetter than average month can erase. I measured 156% of PRISM Normal for May MTD, 78% of PRISM Normal YTD and 71% of PRISM Normal WYTD. I am concerned that the residual snowpack is not going to be enough to get us through the summer months. NWCC iMap is showing snowpack SWE at 9% of Median in my 6-Digit HUC and 2% of Median in my 8-Digit HUC. River gauges are running well below normal flows for this time of year. The Estes Valley Fire Protection District instituted an outdoor burn ban last week. Larimer county is under fire Restrictions for all elevations. The National Park is holding at Stage 1 which is the permanent restriction for the park. Soil at my place is still damp at the surface which has made it much easier to pull target weeds this week. Deer and elk have not been around this week, but the wild turkeys are wandering through. Other birds are not coming to the birdbath as much, especially the larger crows and ravens. Grasses, forbs, and shrubs are very green right now after the good moisture over the past couple of weeks.
