Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: MN-MS-8
Station Name: Newfolden 0.2 W
Report Date: 5/31/2026
Submitted: 5/31/2026 8:55 AM
Scale Bar: Severely Dry
Description:
After a nice start this spring with near normal precip finalizing with a wet snowfall in mid-April, trends have turned dry. May had less than an inch of rain, which has reduced soil moisture to much less than optimum. Optimistic rain forecasts have failed to produce more than a Trace. The dry conditions have been good to get crops in and potholes have dried to promote weed control, seedlings need some rain to develop. Dry conditions in the woods have reduced the abundance of morel mushrooms. Dry conditions have aided successful brood production of ruff grouse and turkeys, as large broods are being seen. Fire danger continues, however greening of grasses are helping mitigate wildfires. Need lower air temps and rain to relieve dry conditions. Will note a "severely dry" condition due to need for rain during this important growing season.
