Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: IL-BN-19
Station Name: Belvidere 5.0 NNW
Report Date: 5/30/2026
Submitted: 5/30/2026 5:36 AM
Scale Bar: Moderately Dry
Description:
Without a doubt, the drought is back, after an all too short hiatus of only 10 weeks. In early April heavy rains resulted in water flowing from a nearby tile drain for the first time in at least 6 years. Now, with little rain in sight, that flow is about to stop, while area waterways continue dropping. So it's back to drought conditions again. Currently, severely dry soil conditions are imminent but moderately dry conditions persist for now. Trees are holding up better than expected but they do look less than ideal. Area lawns are getting stressed and my own lawn now needs watering to limit any damage. Wildlife is pretty quiet, especially one unfortunate fox that sadly was run over. It occurred nearby, close to a stop sign where cars are going slow. Maybe the driver just wasn't paying attention. Anyhow, the two geese next to our busy road seem to be ok, while the fox on the quiet road gets run over. Clearly, it's an asphalt jungle out there.
