Since the last report (5/12/26), we have received 4.03 inches of rain. This has been tremendously helpful for our area. We are having sunny and near-normal temperatures today.
Our vegetable gardens are finally wet enough for seeds to Sprout and grow quickly. We have sugar peas, gourdseed (corn), beans, eggplant, head lettuce (transplants) and cabbages and tomatoes (transplants) that have survived the drier conditions and are putting effort into growing. Up until a couple weeks ago, we were hand watering the raised beds and using the soaker hose every few days.
The drought monitor report comes out today. I expect our drought conditions to go from extreme to severe. We are told that most water reservoirs in the area are at adequate levels. However, we need a number of inches of rain to erase the drought totally.
The various wildlife creatures are doing their usual routines. Baby birds are fledging, bugs are being busy looking for nectar, nest materials (paper wasps, e g.), and digging out from all the rain (ants drying out their hills).
