Description:
Fire danger is low today - probably was a bit more Friday thru Sunday. We had almost 1/3 inch of rain since yesterday afternoon, but it was quite warm before that. As the dry season, and my vegetable garden are both upon us, I am getting the irrigation up and working. The warm weather seemed to suit the chickens. Seven hens laid 25 eggs in 4 days. The pollen has covered the solar panels, and they are producing poorly. Soil was starting to dry before it rained, but it was not getting hard yet. My everbearing strawberries have been producing for a week now. Baby birds are visible - some falling out of nests, some fledging. Deer are investigating to see if they can get treats out of the garden areas. Young cottontails have left the nest, and the barn cats took advantage for a feast. Everything is green and blackberry vines are growing like mad. Bracken is trying to take over. I cut a patch of bracken down to the ground just a week ago, and it is now knee high again. Folks enjoyed the outdoors this weekend, but since rain moved in during the afternoon, the traffic returning to the city was heaavy before 2 PM.
