Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: NM-LN-41
Station Name: Alto 4.8 NE
Report Date: 5/25/2026
Submitted: 5/25/2026 7:37 AM
Scale Bar: Moderately Dry
Description:
The moderately (bordering on severe) dry conditions are noticeable in the small oak understory, the ponderosa pines and the native grasses of my property. I hike regularly and I am seeing the small oaks are very dry on the tips, subject to breaking. New growth is next to none, many appear dead. The ponderosa pines all have brown tips, rather than “green candles”, and most branches have brown needles. The grasses are all very dry and brown. I inspect closely for green at their bases, and I am seeing very little. The meadow area I walk through daily. Is brown and brittle, the soil is extremely dry - for at least an inch or two deep. In my yard I am watering the 7 ponderosa pines, garden grasses, and two peach trees. Thankfully, I have been able to enjoy some wildflowers - the purple wild verbena is profuse (believe it or not) along HWY 220 and at Jaeggers campground out near Fort Stanton. The creek that runs through Rob Jaeggers campground is bone dry. The aquatic grass that grows in the water on the bottom is also extremely dry. There is no moisture evident in the creek, though there is some green growth along the banks.
