Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: CO-LR-1272
Station Name: Estes Park 1.7 SW
Report Date: 5/25/2026
Submitted: 5/24/2026 11:00 PM
Scale Bar: Moderately Dry
Description:
Moving to Moderately Dry from Severely Dry on the strength of the rain and snow we have received over the past few weeks. PRISM Precipitation Normals for my location are: MTD 195% of Normal, YTD 82% of Normal, and WYTD 76% of Normal. The main issue as I see it is that there is very little snowpack for this time of year. Snotel sites are reporting 14% of Median for my 6-Digit HUC and 6% of Median for my 8-Digit HUC. The three river gauges I am following all show much lower flow than average for this time of year. That is not a good sign for long term water supply this summer. The Estes Valley Fire Protection District is at Stage 2 restriction: Open fires are banned. Larimer County has Fire Restrictions in place for all elevations. The National Park is still at Stage 1 Fire Restrictions. Trails in the park are beginning to clear of snow and ice, making most traction devices unnecessary. My yard is really getting green this past week. Most grasses and sedges are growing well. Shrubs are looking pretty good but some are showing stress. The deer and elk have been around this week enjoying the new green growth. Birds continue to visit the birdbath.
