With only 0.08” of rain the week, conditions remain mildly dry but are trending toward moderately dry. The Pascoag Reservoir remains at 8’6”, but should be at least 9’ and overflowing the spillway. The lake is deep enough for water sports and fishing but is what would be considered “late summer” level. We need a big rain storm to fill it up. Baltimore Orioles, various swallows, sparrows, wrens and other song bird are very busy and we saw our first family of Canadian geese swimming around this week. This week’s heat also made the bearded iris and rhododendrons pop. Our blueberry bushes are just about finished flowering and have a bumper crop of small berries getting started. Hiking trails at Sprague Farm are “end of summer” dry with all of the usual wet spots being bone dry and the streams flowing at a slow trickle. We need rain. Fire danger at George Washington state park continues to be posted as Medium.
