Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: NC-PN-17
Station Name: Hurdle Mills 5.2 NNW
Report Date: 5/19/2026
Submitted: 5/18/2026 11:45 PM
Scale Bar: Severely Dry
Description:
We had about 3/4" of rain week before last so soil moisture has been not too bad, but now with a lot of hot and breezy days we are getting back into very dry conditions again. Long term we have been down to less than half of normal rainfall since the middle of August of 2025. That is the longest prolonged drought that anyone can remember around here. Crops in the fields and in my garden are germinating and growing very poorly. All ponds and reservoirs are very low. Some farmers are trying to bale some hay but not getting very much yield. Some farmers are beginning to think that they may have to sell off parts of their herds because they may not have enough hay to carry them through next winter. Forecast is calling for some rain in the next week, hope that is correct because if not, we are going to be in pitiful shape going into the summer.
