Rainfall for week ending this Sunday morning of 0.24" is much less than the normal of nearly an inch. The total for May so far of 0.71" is 1.5 below normal. The running 365 day total has dropped further to 40.62" and is a foot below the 1991-2020 30-year average of 52.79. And only 15.83 of that came during the last 183 days. After several dry weeks and warming temperatures, near-surface ground moisture has been depleted, and grass growth has slowed. Deeper moisture has been low for quite a while. Stream flows continue to decrease. Manual watering needs have been frequent. Have selected Moderately Dry as the condition category, even though it is on the verge of becoming Severely Dry. Unseasonably hot temperatures forecast through this coming Wednesday will only exacerbate the dryness. And there is no guarantee that any thunderstorms that come at the end of this heat wave will deliver much rain.
