During the last 8 weeks we planted more than 8 window boxes and buckets of grass seeds using two different brands/types of grass seeds and two different types/brands of nourished potting soil at least 3 weeks apart on the ground and ~ 3feet above ground near the southeast facing brick wall and northwest facing brick wall. No supplemental water or fertilizer was added. Grass in back yard sprouted quickly and grew up to > 8 inches long while some front yard grass failed to sprout at all and some exhibited much slower growth. Some containers of grass moved to the front from the back quickly deteriorated and withered after moving. Some variable other than precipitation did not support that type of grass at that place/time that was characterized as relatively "dry" at near drought level with burn bans and water restrictions
