On 6 May both the Wateree River at US 76/378 and the Congaree River at I-77 south of Columbia were running very low. Congaree River was low enough that multiple sand bars were easily visible. Unusual to see no recreational boaters on either river; possibly due to low water hazards. Local fields have large brown swaths. Roadside ditches and swamps still dry. Roadside vegetation dry and withering. Non-irrigated lawns still brown, even after the recent light rain. Mosquitos still seem to be mostly dormant. Birds and squirrels still active at the feeders.
