Since last reported on 05/03/2026, received a total of 0.38" of precipitation. Most of the precipitation fell as snow with 2.0" measured on 05/06/2026 and 1.7" measured on 05/07/2026. Our vegetation also had to endure another hard freeze. However, this one was not as severe as the one in April and it appears most leafed out trees came through with no further damage. New growth has appeared on the Ponderosa Pines and our Blue Spruce. However, the new growth does not appear to be as full as past springs with more soil moisture. Newly planted trees are doing well with recent moisture and I'm holding off with supplemental water at this time.
Checking topsoil this morning, I found moist soil at the surface down to 3.0". The soil still packs in my hand but not as tightly packed if more moisture was entrenched. Grass and wildflowers are continuing to sprout. If we continue to receive measurable precipitation, I predict our first mowing of the season will be late May or early June which would be a normal start time.
Birds are very active especially in the morning with lots of songs. Observed a significant number of Pronghorn along Woodmen Road yesterday and in the field to our north. Saw a couple of Cottontails jousting yesterday near our water feature. No significant new wildfires reported in our immediate area. With continued measurable precipitation, I am maintaining the Condition Scale at Mildly Dry.
