Another dry week, especially for spring. We had two Trace days and two days with 0.06". We did get a good "soaker" yesterday with almost an inch but with "morning after" gauge catches that will be counted next week. Temps have been a little below average this week as well.
Plants are moving through the normal phases with many of the early bloomers dropping their spent flowers while others replace them with their blossoms. Andromeda and forthyia are dropping their blossoms; dogwoods are coming into their peak blooms. The older azalea bushes are showing their buds now and will likely start opening their pink and/or white flowers this week. Rhodedendron are not far behind. Leaves on Norway maple are fully opened now and have also dropped many of their flowers, lawns are once again in need of mowing.
Weather forecasts for the week are more typical of spring weather - a few days of sun, then a bit of rain followed by a couple more days of sunshine. With the threat of long freezing nights behind us, it's the season to open up the rain barrels and set up the garden hoses.
