No measurable rain for a couple weeks. Things are drying out some. Fire danger is probably low, but I'd be really careful in the afternoon, especially if there is a bit of wind. Vegetation has been growing really fast. Stuff I mowed 2 weeks ago is knee high in some place. Bracken and nettles up to five feet tall. Mowing, weed whacking, and irrigating is eating up a lot of my time these days. But, all this mowing is supplying me with an abundant supply of mulch, and the potatoes and berries are mulched pretty well. Birds are nesting, and are guarding territory and foraging. Trees are all leafted out. The iris have started to bloom and the lilacs are loaded. The snowball bush is a bit ahead of schedule. We usually have our annual "snowball" fight on Memorial Day, and it looks like the bush will be ready a week early. I think I heard a frog yesterday as I was weeding out the drainage ditch by the road. Soil is dry on top, but still holds dampness underneath. Where it has been walked on, it has clods. The creek is low. Farmers have pretty much weeded around the edges of their fields, and I am doing the same with my garden patches. Hayfever season has been light this week, trees mostly done pollinating, and grasses just getting started.
