For the week 5/3 - 5/9 2026 ----- EARLY MORNING TEMPERATURES at Data collection: Aurora & Kingsford : 40, 49, 40, 34, 37, 31, 47 unusually cold Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings and afternoons were on the chilly side except Friday at 62-63 degrees ----- WATER CONTENT IN THE GAUGE: Aurora & Kingsford: Trace days Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday ------ SNOWFALL- Aurora and Kingsford = Trace on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday blowing in the air and sleet on Wed & Thurs. It is not totally unusual but with the cold temps this week, not surprising----------MENOMINEE RIVER: Made a nice steady decline and as of Thursday, installed my dock in 37-43 degree temperatures and water got into my waders climbing under the dock to secure zip ties. (One has to zip tie the panels to the dock frame on this river), river a bit on the high side and freezing, not fun ha ha ----- US Drought Monitor has All of Michigan and most of Wisconsin at Normal range (less 2 counties in NW WI)----- ----- Natural Wildfire risk is low but human or machine sparked a few fires quickly extinguished. ----- Tourism hasn't really started but seen 2 RV's pass by and 3 boats. Gearing up for Memorial Weekend ----- Birds, a new pair of bright yellow ones but saw them in flight at a distance, could be Goldfinches or Orioles, larger than sparrows, otherwise just the typical spring variety around here. Also a young bald eagle with no white head. There is an eagle couple with a nest downriver and is most likely one of theirs. Some deer have returned as four of them were in my yard at 5 a.m. Friday. and this a.m. spotted "Tyson" the black squirrel who enjoys Tyson brand chicken nuggets no lie (a new 1st for me) left some under my bird feeder and it was eating them. Rare to see the all black furred squirrels here. I see more of them over in Florence. Usual are the grey furred ----- That's all I have. Enjoy the week everyone
