0.49” of rain this week has helped, but conditions remain mildly dry for early May. The Pascoag Reservoir is up to 8’2”, but it should be at 9’ by now. Even with the water a little low, summer boating and fishing is in full gear. Streams at Sprague Farm and the Douglas Forest are flowing slowly and trails are drier than normal for this time of year. Nesting birds, including sparrows, titmouse, swallows, cardinals, warblers and vireos are very busy. Baltimore Orioles are back and very noisy, what a great sound. We also have the Blue Heron back as a regular visitor. Hopefully we see our first hummingbird soon. Forsythia have faded and cherry trees are still in bloom, but lilacs and dogwood have blossomed to replace them. The lawn needs mowing more than once per week. George Washington state park continues to post Medium for fire danger.
